Cubs celebrate at Blue and Gold event

Cub Scouts of Pack 254 celebrated the 101st birthday of Scouting at their annual Blue and Gold celebration at First United Methodist Church of Lenoir. Cub Scouts received recognition for their achievements and rank advancements. Nine 5th graders (Webelos II) earned their Arrow of light, Cub Scouting’s highest honor. Thomas Castleman, Griffin Dilsaver, Finn Green, Zachary McLean, Sam Miller, Ethan Porter, Samuel Thackston, Rylan White and Nick Yaeger received special certificates and commemorative arrows recognizing their achievements. Three of the boys – Castleman, Green and McLean – also received Super Achiever Awards for completion of 20 achievement pins.

The highlight of the evening came when Boy Scout Troop 254 led a special crossover ceremony to receive the nine new Scouts. Scoutmaster Stephen Barlowe welcomed the boys into the Troop with the help of five recent Eagle Scouts: Chris Bosshart, Evan Gibson, Daniel McLean, Trey McCuen and Daniel Osborne. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
